Smoking cessation program: No ifs, ands or butts!

The hospital offers low-cost smoking cessation prescription benefits to all employees and their families. You do not need to be enrolled in a hospital medical plan to participate in the program. Benefits cover:

  • regular prescription smoking cessation medications
  • nicotine replacement therapies
  • over-the-counter medications (nicotine patch, nicotine gum, etc.)

For more information — or to enroll in this program — contact the Human Resources / Benefits Office at 330-543-8330.

Please note that nicotine patches are available for free through Employee Health for employees only. No prescription or doctor’s note is needed. Contact Employee Health at 330-543-3035 for details.

Help from the bench!

Fetch some facts!

Are you considering the Children’s Health Plus Plan, but you’re a bit hesitant to enroll because of its annual deductible?

Take a minute to review this comparison table that explains how the HSA can help you pay the annual deductible.

Keep score of your Rx savings!

All of the medical plan options include benefits for prescription drugs. The plan offers many preventive medications with no co-pay required (see below), and gives you the option of choosing the lowest costs on generic and formulary brand medications or paying a little more for non-formulary brand prescription drugs.

Two new categories of drugs have been added to the list of maintenance medications that may be available to you and your covered dependents at no cost through both the Children’s Health Plus and Children’s Conventional plans. New to the list in 2017 are medications to treat depression and seizure disorders. Medications to manage chronic conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol or COPD/asthma remain on the list as well.

Go "all in"!

You choose generic instead of brand name prescription drugs. You choose network providers for your healthcare. And, you use MMO’s My Care Compare.

Those are just three easy examples of being a better healthcare consumer! Here are some additional ways you can spend your healthcare dollars wisely.

Enrolling your spouse?

There are a few rules related to enrolling your spouse in any of Children’s medical plans.

The shot clock is winding down!

Review your benefit options and make your selections at This year’s open enrollment deadline is Nov. 5, 2016. Enroll now!

Don’t drop the ball!

If you’ve had a qualifying life event, such as a marriage, divorce, birth or adoption of a child, you may change some of your benefits, as long as the change is consistent with your life event. You have 30 days (90 days if you’re adding a child) to submit proof of the life event to HR.

Stand-alone Voluntary Benefits

Additional income security is available through these three optional plans:

  • Group Universal Life Insurance
  • Accident Insurance
  • Critical Illness Insurance

In their own words

There are so many great reasons to choose the Children’s Health Plus Plan. The Health Savings Account (HSA) feature is one of the best reasons, and Children’s employees can best explain the plan’s advantages.

De-fense! De-fense!

All of our medical plans cover preventive care services at 100%. Take advantage of this benefit! Schedule your preventive care screening now!

It’s a win-win situation!

Whether it’s a decision to take the stairs instead of the elevator, or choosing a salad as your lunch, you’re making healthy choices every day.

Keep it rolling by completing a Health Risk Assessment and a health screening. You’ll receive a $100 incentive in your pay when you complete both by Dec. 31.

Go to myKidsnet for the health screenings schedule.

Life and AD&D coverage

Your total rewards package includes basic (core) life insurance and AD&D coverage equal to 1 x your basic earnings (up to $750,000 maximum). The coverage is provided at no cost to you.

Additional coverage (up to 3 times your basic earnings) is also available at age-rated cost levels.

Remember to update your beneficiary information.

Saving enough for retirement?

Experts say you should be setting aside at least 10% of your pay every year to save for retirement. To help you get there, bump up your contributions an additional 1% every year in the Children’s Retirement Income Benefit (CRIB) Plan (a 403(b) savings plan).

The hospital’s matching contributions add to your account!

Set your game plan!

Taking a few minutes now to understand your benefit plans can really pay off! You’ll use the plans more wisely, which can save you and the hospital money.

We share the cost

Although the hospital pays the majority of the medical and dental benefit costs, employees who participate share some of these costs. Your costs for our health coverage options can be found on the rate sheet.

A benefit to smile about!

When you enroll in dental coverage, you’ll receive benefits for preventive, basic and major dental services.

Keep your eyes on the ball!

There are two levels of coverage through the EyeMed EyePrefer vision program: Essential and Enhanced. Both plans provide an annual allowance for eyeglasses or contacts.

Be your own champion!

Wellness is at the foundation of the work we do every day — striving to help our patients become healthy.

It’s essential for all of us to maintain and promote our own wellness — caring for our physical, mental, emotional and financial health. Akron Children’s supports your efforts with a wide variety of wellness programs.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Save money on expenses by taking advantage of two pre-tax flexible spending accounts:

  • Dependent Care FSA for child and elderly day care expenses
  • Health FSA for healthcare expenses you and your family incur

Enroll in an account (or both) and then reimburse yourself throughout the year for eligible expense. Refer to the IRS’s list of eligible expenses for the FSAs.

Benefits basics

Your healthcare costs include an annual deductible and coinsurance. The deductible is the amount you pay in full before your medical plan pays benefits for most services.

Coinsurance is the percentage you pay for most covered services after your deductible is met.
